The DNS 80A and 80B tracks have varying main computers depending on the serial number and configuration of the track. \u00a0This article discusses the power supply for a FC-9821Ka<\/em> computer, which is not<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0the same as the FC-9821Ke. \u00a0<\/em>Before following the diagnostic procedure below, ensure that the computer you are inspecting is the\u00a0Ka<\/em><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The power supply is mounted on the inside of the back wall of the computer box. \u00a0Molex cables drop down to the motherboard and attach to five connectors to power the majority of the computer (a separate cable goes to the hard drive). \u00a0Below is a photograph of these connections viewed from the side. \u00a0An illustrated representation of these connections has also been provided (drawn from the perspective of facing forward from the rear of the computer and looking top-down onto the motherboard).<\/p>\n

The black wires are all connected to GND. \u00a0Relative to GND the DC levels on the other wires are as follows (assume pin 1 is the leftmost for each connector in above illustration):<\/p>\n

DC1:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

1)\u00a0EMPTY<\/em><\/p>\n

2)\u00a0RED — \u00a0+<\/em>5V Vcc<\/address>\n
3)\u00a0ORANGE<\/em> — \u00a0+12V<\/address>\n
4)\u00a0BLUE — \u00a0<\/em>-12V (note this is a negative supply)<\/em><\/address>\n
5) 6)\u00a0BLACK —\u00a0<\/em>GND<\/address>\n

DC2:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

1) 2)\u00a0BLACK —\u00a0<\/em>GND<\/p>\n

3)\u00a0EMPTY<\/em><\/p>\n

1) 2) 3)\u00a0WHITE —\u00a0<\/em>these are actually unused. \u00a0Note that these wires lead to an interconnect which does not involve these conductors (in other words, they are floating).<\/p>\n

4)\u00a0BLACK —\u00a0<\/em>GND<\/p>\n

5) 6)\u00a0RED — +<\/i>5.082V \u00a0*NOT Vcc – these are an isolated 5V supply*<\/strong><\/p>\n

7)\u00a0WHITE —<\/em> +5.049V<\/p>\n

If your DNS 80 track is completely inoperable\/dead, you may have a bad computer. \u00a0And it may be as simple as a dead supply. Or the computer may need to be replaced (i.e. bad motherboard). \u00a0Check the DC voltages out of the supply. If you \u00a0don’t get these numbers, the supply is the culprit. \u00a0If you do get these numbers, the motherboard is likely bad. \u00a0In either case, contact www.GetSpares.com<\/a> to seek repair or replacement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
